LISA'S DONE IT

New Zealand ultramarathon runner Lisa Tamati has done it!

Lisa set out on the 31st October 2009 to run the length of New Zealand from Bluff to Cape Reinga, covering 2,200km in 43 days or the eqiuvalent of 52 marathons. It was the toughest challenge of her life she says, with injury and sickness trouble.

Why has Lisa done this?

Lisa's mission was two fold

1. Lisa ran through the country to raise money for two charities that lie close to her heart, CanTeen (for teenagers and their families fighting cancer) and Curekids (dedicated to finding cures for a myriad of illnesses that affect children). Lisa and her team want to raise awareness and as much money as possible to be split between these two worthy causes.

2. Lisa wants our kids to get outdoors and get active everyday, to explore our beautiful nation.

New Zealanders have just been named the 3rd fattest nation on earth, kiwi kids are spending more and more time in front of the TV, computers or X-boxes. Lisa wants to change that and to inspire kids to get off the couch! To encourage them, Lisa ran the entire length of New Zealand in just 43 days.

Lisa herself overcame severe asthma and a broken back to become an elite ultra distance athlete. Now she wants to inspire this generation to get out there and rediscover the pleasures of physical exercise and adventures.

Lisa has achieved her massive task and has inspired many others to get out and active and to challenge themselves. And now we need you to get active and help fundraise and get fit at the same time.

Set yourself a personal challenge : running, walking, biking, swimming, kayaking, skating, windsurfing..... the list is endless.

Download the PDF sponsorship form, get friends and family to sponsor you and go and do your challenge. When you are done, collect the money and pay it into the BNZ NZ run account and write and tell us your story, what you did, how it was etc. Get out, get active and get your friends to join in too.
